I remember Miss Peacock, Mr Train, Mr Cowan, Miss Snead, Mr Brooks and I remember being allowed out of class to build a model of Westminster Abbey in match boxes with another pupil - not sure if I missed out on 'education' or not!

mr cowan standing up in assembly to inform the whole school that he had had to can a boy for something or other. most of all the way it was made up to be such a big important serious event which of course it was. it hardly ever happened in fact. i can remember marion harmon. i think i was in love with her. lots of vague recolections(sure that was spealt wrong) but it was all so long ago.

I loved William Torbitt school. Remember the large playing fields. School dinners - especially as a prefect. I particularly enjoyed salad with grated cheese. Mr Cowan used to scare me but he got me through the 11+. Mr Hunt used to say "Beg pardon" a lot and slipper the boys mostly. Mrs Bidgood (I considered her very glamarous) taught me nothing but music - I played the recorder, viola, and piano. I realised how little I had learned when I got to senior school and couldn't do the maths! However I could read music. I remember the Christmas concerts and plays. I was sleeping beauty once, and a fairy (got my lines mixed up). I remember crying when I left school, and the class I looked after during wet playtimes giving me a Mars bar as a leaving present. I remember the smog when I was in the infants. We were not allowed to leave school until our older sibling came for us. My sister aged 7 (I was 6) and I walked home not being able to see in front of us - scary! Miss Ferguson was one of my teachers in the infants, I always thought her very very tall who would walk very fast (I had to run to keep up with her). She used to walk home with us sometimes. Good memories. It was fun looking through the photos.
