The Wood Green - Southend Service (Route 1) started on 27th May 1927 run by a company named A.H. Young. New Empress Saloons Ltd gained a controlling interest on 25th October 1928 then completed the take over on 31st March 1932. The City brown and cream livery and distinctive logo was applied to the fleet. During wartime the London (Wood Green) service was restricted and only ran to Brentwood. The Southend service was restored on 1st February 1946, and ran one service per hour. Double deckers started to be introduced between 1947 to 1949 and the fleet began to be coloured green and cream in 1952 after Westcliff-on-sea Motor Services Ltd took City Coach Co over. On 23rd July 1954 the City Coach Company was finally dissolved.
