Message for Debbie Milligan: Yes I remember you clearly Debbie - we were in the same class through juniors school. Remember you passing things through the fence to your back garden. We used to play 'football rounders' on the school field at break times. I keep in touch with Lynne Stoatt already. Please get in touch. My e-mail address is dlgoodliff@silverend94.freeserve.co.uk.

In reply to Sue Roberts; yes I recall Miss Crabb. End classroom next to my class. She was my sister Sarahs teacher in her first year Juniors. Tight curly hair if my memory serves me well. Regards, Steve. |

Perhaps Mavis would contact me- geoffrey.r.gillon@talk21.com in connection with the many interesting memories in message no.91 posted 13th October.
We have news of Miss Billington whom you remember so well and you may wish to write to her? Terry Morgan became a ballet dancer. We have a history of the Dick Turpin which could be sent by e-mail to you and we wonder if perhaps you feature on the photograph of the children as they were transferred from Downshall to Torbitt? We have amongst our members quite a few pupils from your era. |

I was a pupil at WTS when it first opened in 1937.
I transferred from Downshall school Meads Lane in September of that year. I remember with fondness dear Miss Ball and Miss Billington.
Miss Billington taught me an hour a day school when the schools were closed due to air raids at the beginning of the war. She taught me to do 'real writing' in the cookery room of the old Downshall School.
Miss Ball taught me in Class One and she was a very sweet lady - one of the old school with her black hair tied in a bun behind her head. She was quite tall and I adored her, as I did Miss Billington - not forgetting Miss Henshall and Miss Day .I remember the mornings in the hall when we had the BBC broadcast for children to do P.E.
I also remember my mother dressing me up as Bo-Peep in the fancy dress and party at Christmas. I remember Terry Morgan was the Pied Piper in the school play - I understand he took up the theatre when he grew up.
I read on a previous message that it was Roy Perkins who was killed when the V2 fell on the Dick Turpin - in actual fact it was Phil Perkins, Roy's brother, and when it was rebuilt Roy Perkins took over as governor of the Dick Turpin for many years.
The war unnerved all the children. I stayed home in Ilford until 1944 when I went up th Doncaster for a while, when the Doodle bugs started, but came home the day the first V2 fell. I then attended Downshall School and enjoyed my time there, |
