I am across the pond right now but there is a message on my answering machine which tells of the passing of Walter Warden, known as Jock. He was a teacher at William Torbitt in the early 1950's. |

I would like to trace the whereabouts of our old next door neighbours in Cambrian Ave,Newbury Park June,Tony and Rodney Vivien. June was my childhood sweetheart and we lost touch when they moved as a family to Florida,in the late fifties early sixties.I always remember the Queen's Coronation and they were the only people in our road to own a television and we were invited to watch it.Rodney was disabled with Polio and was the youngest of the three. It would be lovely to hear from them or anyone who knnows of them.heres hoping Tony kingsnorth |

Yeah I remember myparents delight when Mr Windle left the school. He didn't inspire respect with his teaching methods. Did he fall, or was he pushed?
I remember the bullying that went unpunished, particularly that Robert Larman and Jamie Gardiner. Horrible kids.
I also remember that Mr Eagland was long over due his pension. I doubt he did much time at a Teachers training college. The day was filled up with a hour of Maths. Handwriting practice. A chosen topic, and the last hour of the day War Memories.

I have no fond memories of my 6 years at the school. They were the unhappiest days of my school life.
I soon realized upon going to secondary school the poor standard of education I had received during my formative years. The teachers were poor, particularly the bigoted, war-obsessed Mr Eagland, who was a Dinosaur even then, with his limited teaching skills.Even today my feelings concerning the school are negative.
Fortunately my education got back on track once I was surrounded by good teaching staff.I hope the same was also true of all the other pupils who passed through the school gates. |
