Personal Notes: Now 85 in January next but still publishing: a book on landscape history of East Lincs is due any day from Windgather Press.
I was scrolling through the memories and noticed somebody wondering about the absence of Mrs Swain. She was a great teacher and I think started me on an academic career in which writing was very important. Lovely lady and desrves to be fondly remembered.
I left WT in 1948, I think, went to Ilford County High till 1950 and then with a parental move to Bucks, to Slough Grammar School till 1956. We used to say it was the next school in the country to Eton, which indeed it was, spatially. I was then at UCL (BSc 1959, PhD 1962) and held various posts at Durham, Bristol, York (Ontario) and Berkeley (Calif).
