After finishing at Downshall Secondary School, I completed a seven-year apprenticeship
as a compositor in printing industry. Made redundant in 1987 from the Sunday Telegraph,
by which time I was a Senior Father of the Chapel (Shop Steward).
Was conscripted to the Grenadier Guards in 1950 then transferred to Essex Regiment.
Took up cycle racing at age 16 and competed regularly until I reached 73.
Married in 1954, wife died in 1993.
Became involved in the administrative side of cycling organisation in 1956
which has continued unabated until the present day.
Have travelled extensively including three round-the-world trips.
Very involved now as Web Master to two Cycling Websites.
