I remember the dinner hall because we'd line up near to the little gated park with the fish pond - I can't remember going in there that often so I am not sure whether it was off limits? But I was one of the few that used to love the dinners, especially the jam tart and jam roly poly desserts and even the rice pudding! I also remember in the 60's wishing my Mum would let me buy hot pants (instead of her home made crimpoline pair that she made me) and those white shiny knee-high boots. But some of us girls would practice the latest Top of the Pops dance moves at play time - we thought we were "hot" back then! I remember the school field with a big old tree in one corner of the field that we'd go and hang out by and the boys would try and climb. I remember the creepy toilets by the play ground where boys would try and sneak in to the girls toilets! I remember drinking milk in the early days out of small glass bottles, and I remember the big old desks with ink wells. (I always hated moving to new classrooms because you always knew you'd have to deal with the last occupant's yukky belongings left in the corners of their desks!). I remember what I then thought were brilliant theatrical performances put on at school and I'd stare up at the boys in the lead roles that I secretly had crushes on and thought that they would become successful actors when they left school? I remember my first day at the school where it was a dark and daunting place - everything was so big. Forty years later when I passed the school after being away, it seems quite small! I remember the school assemblies, and when in one of these school assemblies we saw, on a small b/w TV the launch of the first rocket into space! How technology has changed since then. I am sure, given the space, I could go on and on about my memories (but I won't!) including the teachers - Gwyneth Jones for instance who remains one of my favourites.

I continued my sponsorship of the WT website lately - to indicate the enjoyment I get from it, and to continue recognising the effort of Pauline and Geoff who keep the website going. I remember the school all those decades ago very clearly, the staff, the late Tom Cowan, the original school field from the Eastern Ave. right around to Aldborough Road N., that Art Deco 1930s school buildings – we had it all. One of my endearing memories was the end of year school concert. I remember one evening school concert where Malcolm Bidgood (who had left the school just before my time there) attended, and was introduced to the rest of the audience. Our school year orchestra was generously supported by the girls playing violins. Whenever I see an orchestra on television now – I think back to our smartly dressed girls playing violins in that orchestra. It makes me wonder if they still play now. I was a bit less than average at playing music, but I loved listening to it live. The school reunion last year made me wonder about them again artistically. Of course we’ll never have it again, but I’ve often imagined an old-school tribute band rock concert upstairs in the Junior’s school hall. Maybe comprising rock band performers from our 1950s & 60s pupils. Can you imagine a warm summer evening at the school about dusk, the Junior’s hall windows wound open, the amplifier’s turned up and us old-old school kids rocking? Most importantly the surviving old teachers, particularly Malcolm B, Doreen M, Fay H, Gwyneth Jones all sat in the front row – listening to us. If you can’t imagine it, trying playing ‘When You Were Young’ by the Killers, LOUD - when you are next looking at the photos the WT Website. Golden memories ………………

My fondest memory would be my first day of William Torbitt in Year 2 when everyone welcomed me and i played football with people in my class. My second best memory would be when I got my SATS results because I was very pleased.
